Jay Philbrick

Research Assistant

Jay is a research assistant at The Budget Lab. He currently studies Applied Mathematics-Economics and Computer Science at Brown University. Growing up in rural Maine, Jay saw firsthand the life changing impacts of public investments in education and defense. He has interned with the White House’s Council of Economic Advisers, the U.S. State Department's Office of Monetary Affairs, and in Maine's Governor's Economic Recovery Committee, helping guide effective investments in broadband, infrastructure, and workforce development. Jay has also completed research at the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, and Brown University, focused on evaluating retirement, rural development, and social safety net policies. He is a recipient of the Harry S. Truman, U.S. Senate Youth Program, and Laidlaw Scholarships, and intends to pursue a J.D. and a Ph.D. in economics to analyze and implement evidence-based economic policy.
